About The Clarendon Practice
Trauma-focused psychotherapy and EMDR in Coventry
A safe, steady space to make sense of difficult experiences.
I’m Iris Kay, a Consultant EMDR Trauma Therapist and Psychotherapist with over 20 years’ experience working in NHS mental health trauma services and engaged by Government agencies Police, Fire Service and Emergency Services. I offer private therapy online for adults and teenagers seeking support.
I specialise in evidence based therapies for complex trauma, PTSD, flashbacks, panic, anxiety, depression and stress related difficulties. My work uses modern neuropsychological approaches, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) and Psychotherapy that address both the mind and body. These therapies help regulate the nervous system and trauma responses, often leading to noticeable emotional and physical relief.
Traumatic experiences are stored differently in the brain, which is why memories can remain distressing long after the event has passed. EMDR works directly with these unresolved memories, allowing them to be safely reprocessed so they no longer feel overwhelming. Many clients report that memories become less intrusive and lose their emotional and physical intensity.

You might be someone who keeps it together at work, for your family, in everyday life. But privately you’re overwhelmed, hyper-alert, or going through the motions without really feeling present. You may not fully understand why certain situations trigger strong emotional or physical reactions. That’s where I can help.
I work in line with NHS NICE guidelines and World Health Organisation recommendations, ensuring therapy is safe, ethical and evidence‑based. My extensive experience of online therapy via Zoom or Teams offers flexibility, privacy and comfort. Many clients value being able to attend sessions from a space where they feel most at ease, including their home or even their car.
I offer an initial conversation where we can talk through your concerns at your pace and I can provide gentle psychoeducation to help you understand what is happening and how therapy may help. There is no pressure or obligation, just an opportunity to explore whether this feels right for you.
If you are considering therapy and want compassionate, experienced support, I welcome you to get in touch.

My Approach to Trauma Therapy
I work in a trauma-informed and evidence-based way, drawing on EMDR, attachment theory, neuroscience and somatic psychology. In practice, this means:
Safety first
We focus on building emotional stability and coping resources before approaching distressing memories.
Collaboration
Therapy is something we build together. You are involved in decisions about pace, focus and goals.
Education and understanding
I explain how trauma affects the brain and body, so your reactions begin to feel understandable rather than frightening or “wrong.”
Careful pacing
Trauma work should not feel overwhelming or out of control. We move at a speed that feels manageable.
Working Together
If you contact The Clarendon Practice, you will work directly with me throughout the process. Therapy usually involves:
1
Free Initial Call
I offer psychoeducation about how your brain and body work with stress. We’ll talk about your goals, what you are looking for and whether this feels like the right fit.
2
Early Sessions
Exploring your history, current difficulties and goals, and considering whether EMDR or another approach may be helpful.
3
Ongoing Therapy
Typically weekly or fortnightly sessions, beginning with safety and stabilisation before moving towards trauma processing when appropriate.
4
Review & Endings
Regularly reviewing progress and planning for maintaining the growth you’ll have made after therapy ends.
